Radford Schools: K-12

The Radford school system includes four public schools.  All are fully accredited by the Virginia State Board of Education, having met or exceeded the Virginia Standards of Learning.

McHarg Elementary is on the corner of Wadsworth and 12th Street, with about 377 students in K through second grade. Kindergartners attend either the morning or afternoon session. 

Belle Heth Elementary 
is at 810 Second Avenue, and serves about 490 students from fourth through sixth grade.  The school is in a brand new building next door to the city´s recreation center.

John Dalton Intermediate School 
has about 249 students in seventh and eighth grade. Dalton is adjacent to the high school

Radford High School is home to about 453 students in ninth through 12th grades. Both the middle school and high school are on Dalton Drive, where Main Street intersects with Memorial Bridge, just uphill of the Radford Public Library.

Radford High School is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). 83% of faculty members have five or more years of experience, and 67% have more than ten years experience. 60% have earned advanced degrees, and all are endorsed in the field of their assignment. The average class for required academic courses has nineteen students, and over 90% of graduates go on to higher education. Advanced placement and honors courses, dual enrollment, and participation in the Southwest Virginia Governor´s School are among the offerings at Radford High School. The high school won second place in the Wachovia Cup  for Division A academics in 2010-2011.

Sports are another area of achievement for area school students.  Both the Radford Bobcat boy's and girls basketball teams won the state championship in 2010-2011.  Radford won the Wachovia Cup for Division A Athletics in our region in 2010-2011 school year,  The Bobcats were champions in Division 2 boys and girls basketball, with runner-up finishes in girls cross country and boys track. Radford also made the semi-finals in football, boys and girls soccer, and girls tennis during 2010-2011.
