The New River City cares about its people. It doesn´t take years to become integrated into life in Radford. You don´t need to have grown up here to fit in.
Charitable services such as Beans and Rice, Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread, and Radford Clothing Bank are homegrown local enterprises where creative people solve everyday problems.
New River Community Action (NRCA) supports the well-being and self-reliance of individuals, families and communities. It runs Head Start and several other innovative anti-poverty programs.
The Lamplighters are the "friends of the library" group for the Radford Public Library. They help with fund-raising for building projects, equipment needs, and programs, such as the Summer Reading Program.
Carilion New River Valley Medical Center requires a commitment of just four hours per week to be a volunteer. Activities include providing room information and directions, escorting visitors, delivering cards and flowers, etc. The hospital also has a summer youth volunteer program for teens age 14 and older.
The Radford Lions Club meets at 6:00 PM at 501 East Main Street on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.
The Kiwanis Club is another Radford civic group. It meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 6:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, 215 Third Avenue (corner of Downey St and 3rd Avenue)
The Rotary Club has two groups. One meets on Tuesdays at 6 PM at Sal´s Restaurant, which is at 709 West Main Street. The other meeting is at noon on Wednesdays, at Spinnaker´s, located at Best Western Radford Inn, 1501 Tyler Avenue. Call 540-633-6555 or 540-639-2139 for more information.
The Women´s Club of Radford meets monthly and provides a variety of volunteer services to the community.
