RIDE Solutions is a regional ridesharing program operated by the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission in cooperation with the New River Valley Planning District Commission. It provides free carpool matching services for citizens of the Roanoke and New River Valley regions and surrounding areas within southwestern Virginia. It also works with employers to create company-wide alternative transportation programs.
Regional Park and Ride lots allow commuters, particularly those who live in rural areas, to park their vehicles at convenient location in order to finish their commute by carpool or bus. Many Park and Ride lots in the region are official VDOT maintained lots, but there are several unofficial lots belonging to local businesses, which allow commuters to use them during the day.
Valley Metro provides commuter bus service between Roanoke and the New River Valley with its Smart Way Bus. Services also include specialized transportation for the disabled, and special event shuttles.
The Smart Way is a commuter bus service with free newspapers and WiFi. It links the Roanoke Valley to the New River Valley. Service begins at the Campbell Court Transportation Center in Downtown Roanoke with scheduled stops at:

* Roanoke Regional Airport
* I-81: Park & Ride Lot at Exit 140 near Hanging Rock
* Meadowbrook Library in Shawsville

* The VT Corporate Research Center
* Downtown Blacksburg (signs posted on Main St)
* Squires Student Center on the Virginia Tech Campus (Squires East shares BT stop)
Blacksburg Transit (540) 961-1185 serves the towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg, It provides both accessible fixed route bus service and door-to-door accessible van service for those needing it. Some BT buses offer free wireless internet service.
In Christiansburg, the Explorer bus route serves the downtown central business district and surrounding neighborhoods. The Shopper Express covers the commercial areas near the intersection of Route 460 Business and Peppers Ferry Road. The Go Anywhere! Christiansburg route requires advance reservations and will provide service from any place in Christiansburg to any destination within Christiansburg. To reserve a trip on this bus, call 540-443-7111, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Pulaski Area Transit (540) 980-5040 provides service to the Pulaski County and Dublin areas, including free service to New River Community College.
Radford Transit is a shared city and Radford University bus service. Buses cover routes within the city as well as to Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, and Fairlawn. The NRV Connect route goes to Christiansburg, and Blacksburg on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. RU students, factulty, and staff ride free. The regular fare is $1 per trip.
The Megabus stops at the Falling Branch Park and Ride lot at I-81 Exit 118-A six times a day: three northbound buses to Washington DC and three westbound buses to Knoxville TN,
